Alpaca is a natural fibre sourced from the Andean highlands of Peru, where generations of artisanal tradition have shaped the art of fibre selection. Working within communities close to the alpaca’s natural habitat, master artisans identify only the most exceptional fibres from each shearing, guided by an exacting knowledge of texture, fineness, and purity.

Peruvian alpacas are raised at elevations exceeding 3,000 metres, where extreme
climatic conditions have shaped a fibre of remarkable natural performance. Microscopic air pockets within each strand regulate temperature with precision, providing insulation against cold while remaining breathable in heat. This natural thermal property allows SENTALER alpaca coats to deliver substantial warmth at a lower weight than sheep’s wool.

SENTALER alpaca fibres measure an average of 20 microns, placing them among the finest natural fibres available in outerwear and comparable in fineness to cashmere, while offering greater thermal performance by weight. Finer and softer against the skin than most sheep’s wool, the fibre is naturally hypoallergenic and free of lanolin, making it resistant to the irritation often associated with coarser wools.

Inherently resilient, the fibre resists pilling, tearing, and loss of shape, maintaining its integrity over time. The full SENTALER palette draws from more than 22 natural shades, reflecting the breadth this fibre offers without alteration.

Alpaca is among the most sustainably sourced natural fibres, gathered through annual shearing practices that prioritize the welfare of the animal and the long-term health of the herd. Conducted by Peruvian artisans within the heritage of the Andes, the process preserves the condition of the fibre while honouring the cultural and environmental significance of the material.
